John Southern

John Southern is a graduate of SCI-Arc and is the director of Urban Operations, an L.A.-based studio specializing in both architecture and urban research projects.  John has taught upper-division studios and seminars at Woodbury since 2005, and has been extensively involved in the School of Architecture’s Study Abroad Program.  In addition to his contribution to L.A.’s design community as a teacher, he is also a current board member of the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design as well as a former host of the L.A. version of Pecha Kucha.  As a journalist he has written pieces for Tropolism.com, Loudpaper, MONU, Junkjet, and Form Magazine - publications specializing in the field of architectural criticism and urban design.  John is also the founder of drowninginculture.com and waitingforarchitecture.net – ever expanding archives of architecture, design criticism, art, music, and metropolitan culture.
